A Note to the Reader
Sometimes God plants the biggest ideas in the middle of an ordinary conversation.
I was sitting at a table with two friends: Carla and Crystal.
Crystal had recently given her life to Jesus and had just been baptized. There was a joy and excitement in her that only comes from someone who has discovered new life in Christ.
Carla was on a different part of the journey.
Like so many of us, she had been searching for answers. She told us she had read a popular self-help book, not once, not twice, but three times. She said it had helped her. It gave her practical principles for navigating relationships and letting go of things she couldn’t control. It was good. It was helpful.
As we talked, something became clear to me.
Self-help can teach us better habits. It can help us heal from past wounds. It can change the way we think. But eventually every self-help journey arrives at the same question:
Now what?
After we’ve become healthier. After we’ve learned better boundaries. After we’ve found confidence. After we’ve stopped trying to please everyone.
What’s next?
As Crystal talked about Jesus and the transformation happening in her life, the answer became crystal clear.
Almost without thinking, I said it.
“Peace is a Person.”
Carla immediately stopped me.
“What did you just say?”
I repeated it.
“Peace is a Person.”
In that moment, something clicked, not only for her, but for me.
